Turning old into new. That's one way to describe the latest Hoka Torrent 4. Hoka has ventured into new realms with its Torrent 4. According to the manufacturer, the shoe has been updated from top to bottom: New foam on the midsole, increased stance height, more rubber coverage, revised lug shape and placement, and a woven fabric pull tab on the heel. Reading this, it's easy to wonder whether it might have been easier to create a completely new shoe in its own right.
A Model 1.0, which doesn't really matter to us runners as long as we get on well with what we have. But there are also athletes among us who have settled on one shoe. The one that simply works for them individually. They like to hoard a few pairs in advance. Each sale is taken along so that they always have ‘stuff’ to run in.
For this not-to-be-despised fringe group (to be honest, I'm one of them, and there are certainly a few of this species in the scene), such a complete reorientation is sometimes not ideal. Nevertheless...we are all open to improvements. And I approached the testing of the Hoka Torrent 4 with just such an open and unbiased mind. Not a direct comparison with the previous model, but a ‘here and now’.

Equipped with a PROFLY™ midsole, it offers a balanced combination of cushioning and and reactivity, which ensures a dynamic running experience. The aggressive lug configuration and the grippy outsole guarantee excellent grip on various on a variety of surfaces, while the breathable mesh upper ensures optimal optimal ventilation. The reinforced toe protection offers additional protection from rocks and roots. The Hoka Torrent 4 is ideal for trail runners looking for speed and precision in demanding terrain.
