Without question, the U-TECH Solo is a great shoe that seems to work biomechanically for me. Fast or hard sessions often cause problems with my Achilles tendon - not with the solo! However, I still think I have to work harder to consistently run at a high pace. When my muscles are slightly tired, I find it very difficult to maintain my pace. I've had a different experience with other shoe models. And that's the point with the Solo - it doesn't quite meet my preference, depending on my usual heavily cushioned midsoles and my current performance level. Maybe I should try the Aion, which currently suits my running ambitions better.
The damping of the Solo is a bit too weak for me and the reactivity is much more explosive in competing models, also without carbon. Nevertheless, True Motion manages to optimally balance the height of the midsole and weight in relation to very good cushioning. The good choice of U-TECH™ foam contributes to this - according to the manufacturer, it is said to have 75% energy return. 22mm height at the heel and 14mm at the forefoot is the static drop. Dynamically it should go to 0mm when the foot sinks. An unparalleled feature, which also contributes to the individual great running feeling.
I recommend the solo to lighter runners who are in good training condition and want to train fast units or even want to compete in a competition with a light shoe. The preference here should be for a minimalist, light shoe, i.e. a conventional “racing shoe”, because the Solo comes very close to a racer, but is a bit more comfortable and reactive, especially in the heel area. Because not every fast runner runs forefoot. The distance probably doesn't matter - it just has to please. This was also shown by the Kenyan, Henry Wanyoike, three-time Paralympic gold medalist, who finished this year's Berlin Marathon with the U-TECH Solo in 2:46:12 hours. Bravo!
