Hoka One One describes its latest edition of the Clifton's as the "perfect combination between soft and light". I can only endorse this after 120 km of testing. The Clifton can be classified in the HOKA range between the Bondi and the Rincon. The Bondi offers more cushioning and the Rincon is more for faster runs and competitions. The more agile Daily Trainer would be the Mach 4.

Who would the shoe be right for?

In any case, the Clifton 8 could be a favourite shoe for running beginners who can really do all their training comfortably with the all-rounder. More ambitious runners will find the Clifton 8 a mile-eater that is very comfortable for long runs at a slow to moderate pace. I would recommend it for lighter to moderate runners, heavier athletes would probably be better served with the even more cushioned Bondi from the HOKA range. I also find the Clifton 8 super suitable for recovery runs after strenuous sessions.

As already mentioned, the normal version is perfect for runners with narrow feet, all others should try the Clifton 8 on or order the "Wide" version straight away. Especially in a shoe for longer distances, I find enough space in the toe box very important. The sole itself is not narrow, however, but offers enough stability for a neutral shoe, especially due to its wide forefoot area, without having stability elements built in. The shoe should therefore also be suitable for slight overpronators. After 120 km of testing, there are still no significant signs of wear, so the Clifton can be expected to have a high mileage and a long lifespan, and at a purchase price of 140€ (RRP), it is a fair price.
